Can't connect to ssh server from Linux box |

Hi,
I have installed kpym ssh server on my Windows 2000 box and checked services to make sure that it is running.
I am trying to connect to the ssh server from a Linux box running on the same local area network.
The ssh server refuses to accept my password. I get the message, "Permission denied, please try again."
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your help.
Sincerely,
Don James

Hi,
I'm now getting an error message that says, "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password."
It doesn't prompt me for a password.
What am I doing wrong?
Sincerely,
Don James

Hi,
The message "Permission denied, please try again." seems to come from openssh servre installed on your windows box. If this is the case disable openssh service and then restart KTS service.
When you connect KTS wether you log in or not you will see banner telling you the KTS version:
KpyM TELNET/SSH Server v.1....
First of all check if you are really connecting to KTS.
Now on the message "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password."
Supposing it is comming from KTS you might experiance this problem if you don't provide correctly your username and password. If you are using linux ssh command don't forget to provide your windows username when connecting using:
ssh username@host

Hi Kroum,
Yes, I did have openssh running, but now it is disabled and KTS is running.
I'm still getting the message, "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password."
KTS must not be recognizing the user name because it doesn't prompt me for a password.
What am I doing wrong?

Hi,
I re-installed the KTS server and now I can ssh to it from an open ssh client on a Linux box.
Not sure why it was not working before.
Another ssh server may have been running on this windows box.
Thanks,
Don James

Hi,
Just for info.
If you fill allowed_login_list only the users that are in that list will be allowed to login your host.
For more info check the FAQ page under the question "I want to allow/forbid certain users from loging into KTS. Is it possible ?"
